Preheat the oven to 180°c. and grease 2 medium sized baking trays.
Put the flour in a bowl and mix together with the butter, sultanas and sugar.
Add milk and mix until you achieve the consistency of a firm dough.
Roll out on a floured surface with a rolling pin till its ~2cm thick.
Cut out scones using a scone cutter or the open end of a big glass.
Place on the baking tray and brush the top with egg or milk if you like the top to go a different colour.
Put in the oven for about 10-15 minutes.
Rejoice in your new batch of scones. Now eat them.
Preheat the oven to 170°c.
Add the mixed spice to the flour.
Rub together the flour and butter until it reaches the consistency of sticky breadcrumbs.
Add the sugar and sultanas and mix them in.
Beat the egg then mix it in to the flour mixture.
Grease 2 medium sized baking trays.
Divide the mixture into approximately 10-12 clumps and place 5-6 on each baking tray. The shape doesnt really matter much, they are supposed to look like rocks after all.
Bake in the middle or bottom of the oven for about 25-35 minutes.
Resist your impulses and wait a few minutes for them to cool before you eat one.
